7 Holiday Decoration Ideas for Your Home

The holiday season is almost here, and after being cooped up away from friends and family over the past year and a half, we’re ready to celebrate full throttle this year. If you’re as excited as we are and want to refresh your Christmas decor, here are some of our favourite holiday decoration ideas to get you inspired to go all out this season.

Vintage Christmas Theme

If you’re craving some nostalgia, which most of us are during the holidays, don’t be afraid to embrace all things vintage with your holiday décor. Whether you prefer 80s style vintage or 50s style, there are many fun ways to get creative in your home. Consider using upcycled gems like an old sleigh with bows and evergreens to display on the porch. Old, worn doors and cabinets or any rustic, wooden pieces you have available make ideal backdrops that can be transformed with wreaths and lights. Other simple additions include plaid pillows and throws, retro glass ornaments, beaded garlands, and even old-school oversized lights to embrace your inner Griswold. These simple touches will add so much character to your home.

Wintery Whites and Neutrals

Invite those wintery whites and neutral tones indoors this holiday season if you prefer an elegant and sophisticated holiday interior. Combine a medley of ivories, creams, and whites with vibrant bursts of evergreen and gold for a chic and modern look. Wooden tones and different textures can work well with this theme too, balancing out the neutral tones with just enough warmth.

Classic Red and Green Combo

You can never go wrong with the classic red and green décor. Take advantage of garland and oversized red bows to wrap around your stairway banister. Then finish it off with a string of white lights nestled within the garland. Fill large lanterns with Christmas balls for an effortless display that will add a nice punch of colour to any room or tabletop. You could even make DIY crafts with the kids by painting pinecones and creating wreaths for the doors. Colourful, classic Christmas styles can still look fantastic no matter how modern your interior may be.

Romantic Décor with Dusty Tones

Earthy tones and gold or pearly finishes are romantic in nature, especially when they’re combined with the right about of lighting. Think of large, off-white candles, rich, brown tones for your décor pieces placed on top of the mantel, and woven fabrics like knitted throws that you can cozy up with.

Go Big with Your Ornaments

Ornaments don’t have to be reserved for the tree. Instead, show them off throughout your home, especially those sentimental ones. Use some twine or string and cut it into different lengths so you can attach your ornaments or even some colourful bulbs. Then hang them over top of your windows. The different sizes placed in front of the window will create a cascading, snowdrop-like effect that’s beautiful to look at from outside or inside.

Country Christmas

For a rural, country-style theme, it’s all about the old-school, holiday country classics such as antlers, leather and furry fabrics. Combine these for an inviting look that’ll make you want to curl up next to the fire on those cold winter nights.

 Eco Christmas

Branches and pinecones from around your local park and neighbourhood not only look and smell great, but they’re also kinder on your wallet and the environment. Take a stroll through your area to look for naturally inspiring pieces to add some eco-chic charm to your home this year.
